“This letter… is thanking you for the wonderful job you did for us as our fund-raising consultant. This letter comes not only from me, but also from the entire Board, who resolved to commend you at the Board meeting in October. All of us recognize that you brought the Elder Craftsmen a long way in our level of sophistication, our contacts, and most importantly, our level of funding. We are very grateful to you for your hard work and the personal attention you gave us as an organization and as individuals.”

“During the five years we worked with S.T. Marx + Associates, you creatively positioned our programs for older adults so that they appealed to a wide range of funders. And your work with our Board inspired them to become much more involved with the fundraising process.”

OUR CLIENTS’ SUCCESSES

We take pride in the successful results we have achieved for our many clients over the years. Recent highlights include:

  • During a ten-year association with a major social service organization, we raised the level of annual support by 53% of its operating budget. We also implemented corporate and foundation campaigns and special gift efforts, as well as conducted Board training sessions which led to more committed and intensive Board involvement in the fundraising process.
  • We brought in a record amount during the first year and a 20% increase in operating funds in the second year, during a two-year assignment for a group which serves senior citizens. We planned and implemented its annual campaign, as well as raised capital funds for relocation to a new facility.
  • In a little over a year, we funded a major library expansion and acquisition effort for a group which assists the disabled. We secured funds in the high six figures from foundations, corporations, individual and direct mail sources.
  • During a three month study, we analyzed the feasibility of a $4 million renovation campaign for a 150 year old child care agency. Study steps included designing questions, interviewing 30 Board members, analyzing results and preparing recommendations.
  • For a national women’s organization, our three year accomplishments included implementing programs for annual giving, capital repairs and a Capital Campaign in connection with a 100th Anniversary celebration. We established a Founders Committee which focused on major gifts. Of the monies raised during the first year, 35% represented contributions from sources new to the agency.

WHAT HAVE WE DONE FOR THEM LATELY?
SOME OF THE LATEST GOOD NEWS ABOUT OUR CLIENTS

Funding success during COVID-19
For an agency with residential services for those with developmental disabilities, S. T. Marx + Associates secured funding toward the purchase of PPE, regular deep cleaning, and hazard pay and overtime costs for staff.  Among the grants, one was for six figures from a new source. Several of the other grants were from new funders to the organization as well.

Super Results for a Long-time Client
During economically challenging times, S. T. Marx + Associates increased funding an average of 23% annually, for a total of 115% over five years. The results represent increased and multi-year commitments from previous donors, as well as grants from new donors whom we had been cultivating for some time.

A Substantial Grant Toward General Operating Expenses
It is always a challenge to raise funds for general operating expenses. By creatively positioning our client’s work and conducting research to seek the best possible resources, we were able to achieve full funding of a six figure request. We waited the requisite three year interval before making a repeat approach to the same funder. During that time, we maintained the relationship, submitting properly timed stewardship reports. And, we were rewarded by a repeat grant which exceeded the original grant by 50%!

New Sources Of Funding
Over the past year, we brought in three new funding sources, arranged for seven site visits by funders and introduced the agency to three new potential Board members, all of whom will significantly broaden the scope of the organization's contacts and funds.

A Supersized New Grant
S. T. Marx + Associates is delighted to announce that a foundation has awarded a very generous six figure grant to one of our clients for capital improvements.

S. T. Marx + Associates Goes Global
Susan Marx returned from Brazil, where she gave a course on fundraising to two organizations focused on women's health — a national advocacy group and a local direct service agency. By providing both the tools and a strategic roadmap, she informed and energized the administration, staff, Board and volunteers as they prepare for the fund seeking process.

S. T. Marx + Associates is working with a new client in northern Greece — a Women’s Health Center focused on disadvantaged women and children, many of whom are refugees. We are helping them form a 501(c)3 and reaching out to funders throughout the United States and Europe.
